Bombay Delight – Review

Join Wimbledon’s premier Indian restaurant, Bombay Delight for their Rajasthan Food Festival Menu. This decadent addition to their already comprehensive menu of fresh, local produce incorporates the region’s signature dishes and unique flavours for a culinary feast.

The menu pays homage to the royal era, with colourful dishes which capture the essence of traditional Rajasthani cooking. Each dish is expertly prepared using a blend of heritage spices and expertly chosen ingredients. The restaurant’s wine list offers great flavour pairings alongside the exotic menu, we opted for Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, a red, which was light on tannins and big on depth.

I started with the Rajputana Lamb Chops, a pair of delicate lamb chops marinated in traditional Rajasthani spices and grilled to perfection. The dish is accompanied by a green chutney relish, adding a light and fragrant touch to the richness of the meat.

My vegan friend was also well catered for, she opted for the Jodhpuri Mirchi Vada, a popular street food dish that gives a spicy kick with chilli peppers stuffed with potato filling, followed by Marwadi Paneer, a rustic dish from the Marwar region, bursting with warming spices and topped with tasty sprouted moong.

For my main course, I indulged in the Jaipuri Safed Kukkad Korma, a creamy, nutty and supremely delicate korma dish. Not as sweet as your average Korma, this version had far more depth of flavour and a lighter texture. The Ghee rice is seriously good, a unique take on traditional basmati, a light and fluffy rice, folded with ghee.

For side dishes, we tried out the Lachha Paratha, a flaky flatbread made with whole wheat and clarified butter. This was used to mop up any leftover sauce, every bit is to be savoured. Other highlights include Gatte ki Sabzi, a flavourful, gravy-based dish featuring chickpea flour dumplings cooked in a spicy and tangy yoghurt-based sauce.

To finish off we could not resist trying the Ginger Kulfi, a creamy kulfi, decorated with dried rose petals and just the right amount of spicy ginger. The Kala Jamin was also a triumph, a traditional dessert of cardamon, rosewater and saffron-infused milk solid balls. We washed this down with steaming cardamon tea from traditional tea glasses, expertly poured by our charming waiter.

Bombay Delight is family-friendly and offers ample seating and large tables, as well as a long bar area, running regular Happy Hour on drinks and cocktails.

This not-to-be-missed Rajasthani Food Festival Menu runs from Monday 1st April till Sunday 30th June.
