TT - London - Review

Walking into TT - London, to dine at their restaurant, you wouldn’t know you were in the right place. A fine whiskey bottle shop doubles up as a reception space, where you check in. Spread across the ground floor and rooftop, the restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday, offering dinner from a menu of seasonal wood fired sharing plates and daily specials, alongside cocktails, beers and an extensive wine list. Having been a big fan of TT - London for quite some time, I’d frequented their cellar bar, cinema and even their cocktail making classes for several years and was excited to try the latest string in their well-considered bow.

Located three stories up the view is pretty special: the city, Shoreditch town hall and the overground train tracks all in one frame of view. A beautiful day, they had the sides of the terrace down to allow for a lush summer breeze, with retractable walls and roof, TT - London have cracked the code of how to effectively operate an open-air rooftop space in the UK’s unpredictable weather.

Known for their epic smoked meats, we were here to sample the plant side of the menu which is surprisingly robust for a restaurant that prides itself on its grill skills. Welcomed with a glass of Crémant whilst we admired the view and debated our order, we started with just a simple ciabatta which was exceptional in itself; A huge slab of freshly baked bread, we were off to a great start. We ordered the burnt aubergine; brown butter yoghurt, pomegranate, and almond which was delicious, the hummus; served with tahini and baby cucumber, and the smoked oyster mushrooms; with Burford brown egg yolk, very tasty and moreish.

The Grilled Cabbage was my personal favourite; salty, crispy and creamy all at the same time, one of those dishes that inspires you to experiment with the ingredients at home (but knowing you could never recreate it).

Ending with a sticky toffee pudding to share served old school dinner vibes e.g. a massive fluffy slice with loads of toffee sauce and a creamy side, we ended our meal feeling fat and happy and ready to roll into our weekends.

A picturesque spot in the heart of Shoreditch, the new restaurant at TT London is a must try, offering delicious food and drinks in a setting to match. Although fast becoming known for their epic meat skills, they have a vegi side of the menu which is well thought through and tasty, and we would highly recommend this option if looking to cater for a mixed group.
