Celebrate Black History Month at Kindred
Hammersmith’s Kindred, a former private members club transformed into a dynamic community space, is excited to announce a month-long celebration for Black History Month this October.
The programme features an array of events, including engaging talks, sumptuous dinners, and captivating performances that honour the rich tapestry of Black culture and communities in West London and beyond.
Highlights of Kindred's October Programme:
Monday, October 7th: Community Dinner with Strangers in the City
In honor of Black History Month, Kindred will host a Community Dinner in collaboration with Strangers in the City and St. Best Jamaican Cuisine, featuring an authentic Caribbean menu.
This unique event invites 100 attendees to share a meal at two long tables, fostering connection through icebreaker activities. Guests are encouraged to join solo, engage with one another, and savour the moment without distractions. Best of all, this dinner is free to attend, with the option to support Kindred’s charity partner, the Nourish Hub.
Founders Chanté Joseph and Zainab Kwaw-Swanzy of Strangers in the City aim to create safe spaces for individuals to connect beyond their comfort zones.
Thursday, October 16th: Ancestral Futures Presents: Guinea Talks with Falle Nioke
Join pioneering musician Shumba Maasai for a night dedicated to celebrating African music and culture. Falle Nioke, a renowned singer and percussionist known for his mastery of traditional instruments, will engage in conversation and performance. Friday, October 25th: Carnival Conversations
In partnership with TALLAWAH, Carnival Conversations offers an insightful platform to explore diverse voices within the creative industry. This official Notting Hill Carnival event will illuminate the significance of Carnival in Black-Caribbean British culture, featuring discussions on its origins and ongoing relevance. The panel will be led by Matthew Phillip, CEO of Notting Hill Carnival Ltd, and hosted by renowned DJ Martin Jay.
Wednesday, October 30th: All Jokes Aside
Inspired by classic cabaret comedy clubs, this night of laughter is brought to you in collaboration with Mindset and JAW Management. Enjoy an evening of top-tier comedians over dinner and drinks, hosted by Travis Jay, star of the Netflix hit Supacell. Featured comedians include award-winning Aurie Styla and BBC New Comedy Award nominee Darran Griffiths.
