Dishes to choose from include Crispy monkfish, preserved lemon & herb salsa, Lamb shank shepherd’s pie, red wine jus, Pan roasted cod, monk’s beard & brixham crab bisque and Herb-fed chicken breast to name a few. Ending on a sweet note with the. The sharing menu is £49.00 pp.
We were invited down prior to Valentine’s Day to try out the menu. For the starter I choose the Crispy monkfish, preserved lemon & herb salsa. The fish was very meaty with the perfect crisp coating, it may look like a small starter but it is incredibly filling. Great choice for a starter! My dining partner opted for the Boxcar superfood salad, a vibrant medley of fresh, healthy ingredients that pleased both the eyes and the palate.
For the main I opted for the Lamb shank shepherd’s pie, red wine jus, and what a delightful dish it was! The creamy, soft mash paired beautifully with the juicy, flavorful beef, while the red wine jus added a rich, luxurious finish. It was a true comfort dish, packed with flavour and warmth.
The Valentine’s Day menu, ends with the Chocolate and Tonka bead fondant, oat crumble and raspberry to share, a decadent dessert, which is the perfect end to a romantic meal.
The drinks menu is equally impressive, featuring craft cocktails and an extensive list of local beers. The Boxcar Old Fashioned, with its smoky bourbon undertones, is a must-try. The staff at Boxcar are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They strike that perfect balance between being present when needed and giving diners space to enjoy their meal.
This place really is a great spot for an intimate dinner with your loved on Valentine’s Day. The dim lighting and relaxed atmosphere, creates a warm and inviting vibe, you both won’t want to leave! I know after our meal I certainly wanted the night to go on. The best part is there is a bar, so you can always carry on the evening with drinks at the bar.
