Stars restaurant – Review

Situated directly across the road from Tottenham Court Road station you will find yourself in the West End’s newest theatre, Soho Place which opened in 2020. Inside you will find the restaurant – Stars, situated on the ground floor. My guest and I arrived for our reservation in the evening and were a bit disconcerted at seeing the crowds outside the restaurant entrance, however, we soon discovered that both the theatre and the restaurant share the same entrance so breathed a sigh of relief at not having to queue.

The restaurant was busy initially but emptied within 10 minutes of sitting down and was quiet for the rest of the evening which was surprising considering how enjoyable our evening was.  The restaurant’s décor features a colourful wraparound mural of stars and galaxies that twinkles, and as a bit of a stargazer, my eyes kept straying at the beauty.

The menu had two options: pre-theatre 3 course menu or the a la carte, along with an extensive wine list. For wine we decided on the Adega de Moncao; a refreshingly zesty Alvarinho which was perfect for a hot summer’s evening.  For starters, I chose the English burrata & tomatoes, marinated with miso and smoked oil which was divine!  My guest went for the Korean Spiced Wings with Kimchi & Sesame dust which was full of flavour and had just the right amount of spice. Sourdough bread was suggested by the waiter for dipping, which was a good recommendation.

For the mains, the Hereford 28-day Aged Rib Eye & Fries are amazing, seasoned and cooked to perfection. It was so good that I didn’t bother using the accompanying Bearnaise sauce, I also upgraded to the Truffle & Parmesan Fries which were just wow! My guest decided on the Roast Duck Leg with lentil puree and braised radicchio, the duck was moist, slightly pink and very tender, another successful main.

We finished on a slice of Basque Cheesecake and Chocolate mousse with raspberry & caramel; however, we couldn’t do them the justice they deserved due to how full we both were.

Service throughout our meal was incredible, the staff was professional, and attentive and it was refreshing seeing faces full of smiles.

In summary, delicious food and exceptional service; well recommended and worth a visit.
