Canary Wharf Swap Station

Canary Wharf has launched a brand new sustainable fashion initiative just in time for Earth Day. The Swap Station is a donation bank, encourages eco conscious fashionistas to swap their pre-loved clothes for shopping vouchers from a range of retailers in the malls across Canary Wharf.
Located in Jubilee Place mall, the installation was designed by denim artist Ian Berry, who will turn the donated items into a unique artwork that will hang in the mall in time for World Environment Day on June 5th 2022.

Live until Tuesday 26th April, the initiative aims to help reduce the amount of discarded clothing ending up in UK landfill each year by giving life to new clothes. More than 300,000 tonnes of clothing end up in landfill each year in the UK, many items of which could be re-worn or recycled. Any clothes not used for the new artwork will be donated to Love Not Landfill, a non-profit campaign to encourage fast fashion fans to buy second-hand, swap, recycle and give to charity.

The Swap Station campaign forms part of Canary Wharf’s wider Conscious Consumer initiative, which encourages visitors to make sustainable retail choices, while also offering refillable water stations, transport links, extensive green spaces and plastic-free lunch spots.

The Swap Station will give a new lease of life to the clothes donated and forms part of Canary Wharf’s ongoing investment in public art and sustainability. Berry’s final piece will join over 110 permanent works by over 50 international artists currently around the Estate, making Canary Wharf a rich tapestry of diverse artwork.
