The ‘Museum of Plastic 2121’ – An immersive virtual museum 100 years in the future

As Winter draws in, you might want a bit of culture and wonder in your living room that Gogglebox fails to provide(!). May we recommend, Curatours’s first museum, the ‘Museum of Plastic 2121′? An immersive virtual museum 100 years in the future where things worked out well for the planet and humanity, and now the only place you can find plastic is in a museum. Positive enough for you?! You’re welcome!

Expect a stunning visual feast as you visit six different rooms in the museum, covering the past, present, and future plastics. You can interact with videos, images and other media. Expect a few surprises on the way, too, including the Mural called “The Choice” by Cheeky Observer and a partnership between South African activists Greenpop and the artists’ collective Baz-Art. Part of the British Council’s “Creative Commissions for the climate”; the Museum Of Plastic 2121 takes inspiration from the Solarpunk movement. The idea is to inspire ourselves into a positive self-fulfilling prophecy. Less plastic is the way forward!

The museum is an international collaborative effort with partners from environmental organisations, universities and art collectives, including the British Council’s Creative Commissions programme, a series of creative commissions exploring climate change through art, science and digital technology as part of The Climate Connection global initiative.

Dr Alice Bell, Co-director at Possible and voice of the guided tour for the Museum of Plastic 2121, is looking for real change: “It’s not just a plastic straw here or a crisp packet there, but how the whole system of plastics sits at the core of modern consumption and the fossil fuel age – moreover, how maybe, just maybe, tackling plastic pollution could, far from being a distraction from larger structural fights with the oil industry, help humanity heal its relationship with the oceans.”

You can access the museum in multiple ways.
